Founded in 1969, Dakota Specialty Milling is a family-owned specialty grain miller and is built on the philosophy that bakers everywhere deserve consistent product performance. With this in mind, Dakota Specialty Milling constructed its first mill in the heart of the northern grain country in Fargo, North Dakota. The decision to move to the heartland gives Dakota Specialty Milling direct access to farmers and the major grains they grow. Our location in the Red River Valley in the upper Midwest supports a unique relationship with the farming community, and keeps the Dakota Specialty Milling team up-to-date with the growing environment while giving us immediate access to the premium raw materials that make our blends the right mix for all reasons.
Originally part of Roman Meal Company, the makers of Roman Meal Bread, twenty years ago Dakota Specialty Milling incorporated as an independent business under the name Roman Meal Milling Company. Over the years, as our business grew, so did our operational capabilities. In 1990, we built our second, state-of-the art plant in Fargo, and expanded our operations into contract cereal packaging, grain toasting, toppings, and custom batter blending.
In January of 2008, we changed the name of our company to Dakota Specialty Milling. Our new name better reflects our location in America's heartland as well as our unique position as the industry's premier specialty mill. Today, Dakota Specialty Milling supplies the entire wholesale bread baking industry and our services include specialty mixes, grain blends, and toasted products throughout the bread, cracker, cereal, granola, and food coating industries in eleven countries.
